The first bridge across the Delaware River here was made of wood and went up @ 1805. The Lincoln crossed on a narrow iron bridge, now gone. It was replaced on the same stone piers in 1929 by the green steel truss bridge that serves today. It carries the inscription "Trenton Makes the World Takes."
