OLD BRIDGE #6 (Natchez Trace Vicksburg MS)

OLD BRIDGE #6 (Natchez Trace Vicksburg MS)

The bridge is shown from the MS shoreline looking across the Mississippi River to LA. The bridge opened in 1930 and carried one lane of US 80 in each direction plus trains! Vehicles no longer use the bridge but trains do--their tracks are on the lower approach and join the roadway near the trusswork.

This whole area was a Civil War battleground. Confederate cannons helped guard the city against Union gunboats, blocking their passage. These are replicas near a visitor center.
