The fin-like canopy is merely impractical, except as an advertising gimmick. (Obviously it didn't work well enough.)

That steep roof offered almost no protection from the summer sun, wind and rain. All it really did was redirect the north wind in winter. It's just a good thing the building faces south.

Only pump jockeys were affected though. Drivers stayed in their cars back in those days of full service.

This well-constructed little station was doomed by design. It just sold gas and had no service bays. At most there would have been a vending machine or two, certainly more profitable than gasoline but not nearly enough to justify staying open.
