PEACE, LOVE + (Rt 66 VW Bug Ranch Conway TX)
I hang this image at an angle, half-way between horizontal and vertical, matching how the VW Bugs were buried, nose-deep, at Conway TX.
Who says an image has to be either horizontal or vertical? Where exactly is that written?
Rt 66 sometimes is crooked, and sometimes it goes at angles. It twists and loops and turns. Rt 66 goes over the land pretty much the way people have always gone over the land...taking it just as it comes, one mile at a time.
The original VW Bug Ranch was from the Interstate era. The new one is one mile west of the Big Texan steakhouse along I-40.
I didn't meet the artist who created this bit of now-vanished roadside graffiti. And it's not clear if this is the work of one person or two. But these are my feelings exactly. And this photo of a VW Bug (hung sideways) is the best way I know of to sum up my experiences on Rt 66.
May your trip be as enjoyable.
