Texaco at one time was in all 50 states, and likely had more stations along Route 66 than any other brand.

But Texaco came up short on crude during the oil turmoil of the 70s. It was forced to downsize several times and eventually was taken over by Chevron.

Now, like the sign on the abandoned station says, Texaco is an Ex-Company.
